You won’t go wrong looking for toddler activities in Hilton Head Island. The idyllic setting in South Carolina is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a vacation that is actually fun with little ones. I know this from experience. Not just as a parent, but as a child! My parents took us to Hilton Head several times over the years. Those vacations are what inspired me to go back with my own kids.
You know when you have fond memories of a place, but when you go back years later it’s just not the same? That is not the case here! This was my first time returning in over 10 years, and it was every bit as lovely as I remember.

Top Toddler Activities in Hilton Head
Explore Harbour Town
If you only had one day to spend on the island, Harbour Town is the place to go. Let your toddlers loose in the Harbour Town Playground where they can swing, slide, climb, run and socialize to their heart’s content. Meanwhile you can watch from a nearby seat with a drink in hand and a breeze off the water.
Next, make your way to the iconic Harbour Town Lighthouse, and climb to the top if your little ones still have energy. The walls on the way up are filled with facts about the island. The display gives you an excuse to go slow if you get tired. When you get to the observation deck, the views are amazing!
As the sun starts to set, head over to the stage under the Liberty Oak to get a good seat for Gregg Russell’s concert. He is a performer who plays guitar and sings interactive songs that delight children of all ages. If you make a fun sign, he might even select your child to sing on stage with him.
Don’t forget to grab yourselves a sweet treat at one of the ice cream shops to complete a fun-filled day.

Wield your Pirate Putter at Mini Golf
There are several mini golf courses on the island, all of which are great for toddlers and their families. Our absolute favorite is Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf (not to be confused with Adventure Cove – still great, just not our favorite).
Pirate’s Island has two 18-hole courses that are fun for kids and challenging for adults. Each course takes you on a pirate’s journey as you putt over, around and through themed obstacles. We went two different days and played both courses because we wanted to hit everything. Jameson was excited to go over the waterfall, and I wanted to take him through the cave. The family-friendly atmosphere is apparent from the moment you walk past the gallows until you leave donning your pirate hat and flag. Visit their website ahead of time for a $2 discount.
Be a Beach Bum
Hilton Head has 12 miles of beautiful beaches along the Atlantic Ocean with lots of room for building sandcastles, flying a kite and other activities. Many visitors probably don’t know this, but all 12 of those miles of beach are public. The thing is, many of the access points are on private property. You can find information on public access points here. Once you get to the beach, you’ll be hard pressed not to enjoy the fine white sand and temperate water. Just remember to apply sunscreen liberally and not to keep your littles out in the sun for too long!
Splash Your Cares Away at the Pool
If you’re in the mood for water but not sand (clean-up can be the worst, am I right?), take the tots to a pool. Many accommodations on the island have pools, from Airbnbs to motels to resorts. If the place you’re staying doesn’t have a pool, several of the island’s resorts offer day passes for non-guests to use their pool and beach facilities. Many also have kiddie pools, fountains, and toys. Bonus points if you snag a lounge chair under shade to use for naps between splash sessions. Our kids would have spent the entire day here if they could have.
Unwind at a Family-Friendly Brewery
Hear me out. I know this isn’t the typical activity you’ll find on a kid-themed blog. But breweries and beer gardens are becoming more and more family-friendly these days, and The Bank is a great example. They have a huge outdoor area with tons of seating and shade, lawn games and even a kids play area. Jameson kept himself busy at a giant Connect 4 set for quite a while. Add a variety of kid-friendly food options and a cold beer in your hand, and you’ve got yourself a splendid evening.

With only four days on the island, I think we covered a fair number of activities without over-extending the kids. That said, there are plenty of other toddler activities in Hilton Head. Bike trails, tennis and pickle ball, boat cruises, the list goes on. Regardless of which entertainment you choose, your time on Hilton Head Island is sure to be the perfect destination for a vacation (yes, vacation) with your young kids!
